Construction Begins!

On April 3,2008, demolition started on property South of our Finishing Building at 959 So. 800 West, Salt Lake City. When the current structure is demolished, we will commence with construction on a 70,000 sq. ft. building to replace our Rigid building in North Salt Lake and our roll storage building, also in North Salt Lake.

Recycling
The roof trusses of the old building will be used in the construction of  another building.  All the block and asphalt will be recycled by C.R.I., Construction Recyclers Incorporated.  We calculate that 80% of the building will be recycled.

Lower Carbon Footprint
Many steps have been taken to greatly reduce the carbon footprint of this building over the two buildings it will replace.

1-The walls will be R16
2-The roof will be R30
3-It will use Ciralite Suntracker skylights which follow the sun to give virtual daylight inside the building.  Each Suntracker replaces 1000 watts of metal halide lighting.  Please refer to www.ciralight.com.   .
4-The lighting will be T5   and triple stage. That is there are 6 tubes per fixture, and normally 2 will be on when required,  and if additional light is needed,  more tubes kick in. The light fixtures have a thermal heat pipe, that uses no electricity, which regulate the lamp temperature to maintain full lumen output. The building will be lit sufficiently to navigate it, but the intense lighting will be done by task lights over each machine.  Each machine will have a switch to turn the lights off over the machine when the machine is not running.  All ballasts will be electronic, which uses less power and is more reliable.
5-All hot water will be on demand, saving water and energy.
6-Warehouse lights will be on motion sensors.
7-A 4' strip of Guardian translucent wall system will give ambient light inside of the building.
8-Heating will be radiant, which heats machinery, people and building,  not air and is much more efficient than forced air.
9-A 3' canopy over the Guardian system will reduce heat gain in the summer, saving air conditioning costs.

The end result of this construction is a far more pleasant place to work, and will save additional energy in transportation of rolls and Rigid furnish, as Rigid will be connected to its supplier, Finishing. Eventually Printing will be located to the North of this complex. All of this will greatly increase communication, lower manufacturing costs, improve quality, and save energy.

This building will use at least 30% less power than the two buildings it replaces.
