UPB INTERNALIt’s been a year since we set our goal to cut our environmental footprint by 33%. So . . . just how are we doing? With 2008 as our baseline, we cut our kilowatt usage by 8.7% - mostly done by our move from North Salt Lake to the new Rigid Building. We expect the solar array will help us in 2010. The Rocky Mountain Light & Air project will come into play as well. We expect to save 275,000 kWh’s in 2010 with this project alone: 8.3% of our entire usage! We actually saw our usage of natural gas go up 5.5%. Mostly because we were heating one of the buildings that was empty after our move, but before we sold it. We expect to see this number go down in 2010. Water usage reduction was huge getting away from watering lawns and watering our drought tolerant landscaping. We cut our usage by 29.2%. Diesel was another significant savings; we cut our internal usage by 16.5%! The consolidation of our print building and looking at when we go north and south will continue to help get this number down. So there’s still work to be done, but we are moving in the right direction and I feel we will get this done well before our goal of 2017! Steve Keyser
