How does Sustainability apply in the office? There are the obvious things like offering recycling and encouraging all office staff to recycle paper, plastic water bottles, and glass as any office might. We encourage staff to bring in magazines, boxes and newspapers for recycling in our segregated bins.
At UPB, we are starting to combine sustainability with corporate social responsibility like many companies.  Corporate social responsibility is the integration of business operations and values, whereby the interests of all stakeholders including investors, customers, employees, the community and the environment are reflected in the company’s policies and actions. (as defined by CSR Wire). This gets us to look at our environmental performance as well as our social performance. Social performance is all about culture, employee engagement, and health & safety.
In April of 2009, UPB opened a new building that integrated energy efficient materials with design for our workforce in mind. You can read a little more about that in Buildings. The building is energy efficient but it’s also a comfortable place to work.
We are currently drawing up plans for our new Office and Printing building. That building will be LEED certified which will encompass green building practices and comfort for workers. In addition, it will be onsite next to our other manufacturing facilities providing a cohesive production environment which will bring our employees together. UPB culture will thrive.
