PLASTIC RIGID WINDOWS AND FOLDING CARTONS

One thing you will know about UPB if you deal with us, is that we’re control freaks and machine junkies.  We like to handle the production of the entire process with some of the newest, innovative machinery out there. In 2009, we bought new equipment to expand our production capabilities to include plastic.

PRINTING

  • Flashback to 2005 UPB installed a very unique printing press, the Man Roland 707+.
  • It can run plastic: PVC, PET, APET and can run super-white opaque whites.
  • Now it’s 2009 and we’re into plastic. Why did we wait so long?
  • We wanted to come to the market with the same array of capabilities that we bring to folding cartons.

GLUING

  • Also this year, we bought a new gluer and repurposed an old gluer to run plastic.
  • Going back and forth between paperboard and plastic creates quality issues. Issues solved!
  • We bought the best glue system money can buy for this gluer.
  • This glue system is the first one in North America and lays down a very fine glue bead.

DIECUTTING & SCORING

  • We upgraded our stamping press to run plastic & bought two Radio Frequency (RF) die cutters.
  • RF scoring is important for clean scores that bend easily & without clouding.
  • These RF machines allow us to emboss on plastic as well.
  • We installed a 41” Bobst Master Cut with a full blown plastic package and the ability to blank “strip” the cartons avoiding the lengthy process of stripping plastic.
  • The scores are not as good as RF but for many clients, they will be fine.
  • The Bobst runs at 10 times the speed of the RF machines, so there will be a significant cost savings if you like the scores.
  • With our 20+ years experience of building our own dies, the tooling for plastic will be less money than what you’re accustomed to paying.

Either way, you’re the customer: We came to the market with both production methods of diecutting & scoring.

So although we have waited five years, we feel that we’re one of the most capable converters in the country.  We’ve done our homework and are ready to run very high quality plastic at very competitive pricing. Are you ready to see some samples? Call or email me!
